The Albertus Viljoen wines are a tribute to Albertus Viljoen (Alvi) van der Merwe, who bought a piece of land on the banks of the Breede River in 1928 and decided to plant vines. Only the best grapes are used for the Albertus Viljoen wines. The chardonnay grapes used in this wine come from old vines planted on poor limestone soils. After manual harvest in the early morning, the grapes are vinified per parcel. The bunches are pressed whole and the juice is fermented in wooden barrels with wild yeast strains. The wines are then blended in different barrels from different plots. This results in a golden yellow, rich wine with aromas of lime, honeydew melon, vanilla, warm breadcrumbs and a hint of roasted hazelnuts. In the mouth, ripe fruit is followed by refreshing acidity. The wine has a pleasant fatness and a beautiful long finish.
