Bumbu - the original artisan rum - is a superior rum made from the finest sugar cane selected by connoisseurs from eight countries in the West Indies. Bumbu is blended with water from one of the purest sources in the world and matured in oak barrels for up to 15 years to create a smooth brown rum with a flavour as complex as the rich history of the brand.
Bumbu is made in Barbados - known as 'Rum Island' - where the rum originated more than 400 years ago. Bumbu's heritage stretches back to the 16th and 17th centuries, when sailors and merchants unsatisfied with their usual grog added Caribbean fruit and spices for a better taste. They called the result 'Bumbu'. The unique quality of Bumbu can ultimately be traced back to its source: the water. Created from coral limestone, Barbados' water is naturally purified and is among the finest in the world. What makes Bumbu even more remarkable is the blend of sugar cane used and sourced from eight countries - Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guyana and Honduras.
All of these countries have the ideal climate and mineral-rich soil that is crucial for growing premium sugar cane, and each individual harvest contributes to the unique characteristics of the Bumbu blend - in which coffee and cocoa can be tasted and which smells of coriander and ginger and tropical fruits such as mango and papaya.
Bumbu is aged for up to 15 years in top-quality bourbon oak barrels from Kentucky - and this process gives the blend its rich amber colour and smoky aftertaste. Bumbu's complex aromas include Madagascan vanilla, soft caramel and toasty oak. On the palate, complex combinations of cinnamon, roasted nuts and allspice impart a robust flavour with mild sweetness and an exceptionally smooth finish.
