Octomore Ed. 01.1 Bruichladdich 5YO (63.5%)

The Octomore 01.1 is the very first release in the legendary Octomore series from the Bruichladdich distillery on Islay, Scotland. Distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2008, this single malt Scotch whisky is known for its exceptionally high peat content of 131 ppm (phenol parts per million), making it the most peated whisky in the world at the time.

Maturation and alcohol content: The whisky was aged for five years in ex-bourbon casks from the Buffalo Trace distillery and was bottled at a cask strength of 63.5% ABV.

Tasting notes:
Nose: Rich and powerful with aromas of wood smoke, tarry ropes, pipe tobacco, smouldering charcoal, smoked meat, seaweed and aniseed.
Palate: Intense smokiness with spicy, peppery oak notes, a distinct coastal character, firm peat and hints of unripe fruit.
Finish: Long and peaty, with an oily texture and maritime influences.
