The Rivière du Mât distillery has been located on the island of La Réunion, in the middle of the Indian Ocean above Madagascar, since 1886 and takes its name from an old legend. According to legend, a ship exploring the island was shipwrecked in a riverbed and for years only the mast remained visible. In time, people started calling the stream Rivière du Mât: the river of the mast.

A typical product of La Réunion is "Rhum Arrangé": a perfect blend of traditional r(h)um, tropical fruits and spices. It is made by macerating (soaking) a mixture of fruit and spices for several months to years. Sugar is also added to bring out the flavours and to obtain a soft aftertaste. Rivière du Mât honours the tradition of the island of La Réunion with four different "Rhum Arrangé" flavours: Caramelised Pineapple, Tropical Vanilla, Toasted Coconut and Banana & Vanilla.
