TRES HOMBRES Rum Tasting

The RUMS purchased by the Tres Hombres on its voyages to and through the Caribbean are known for their unique character, shaped partly by the maturation process during sea voyages. The rums sourced directly from the distilleries mature in oak barrels on board, absorbing the influences of the sea and the ship's movements. This maturation, also called dynamica went, contributes to the distinctive flavour profile. Limited editions are released yearly, depending on the ship's cargo capacity.

Andreas Lackner is one of the founders of Tres Hombres, an initiative that combines sustainable sailing with rum production and distribution. Together with Arjen van der Veen and Jorne Langelaan, he restored a former minesweeper from 1943 in 2009, which they renamed the 'Tres Hombres'. This sailing ship, without an engine, transports cargoes such as cocoa, coffee, wine and rum between Europe and the Caribbean, entirely powered by wind energy.
